Brighton Mobile Game-Tour: The Story

Looking for inspiration to create a story...

Brighton Rocks, the movie.
"Brighton today is a large, jolly, friendly, sensible town in Susex, exactly one hour’s journey from London...

...But in the years between the two wars, behind the regency terraces and crowded beaches there were another Brighton of dark alloway... From here the poison of crime and violence began to spread until the challenge was taken by the police.

This is the story of that another Brighton."

Mobile Game-Tour Greenwich: The Experience

On Saturday I did the first experiment of Mobile-Game Tours in Greenwich, London.

First of all it's important to say that the player couldn't play in a perfect way because when we arrived to Greenwich we were informed about an earthquake in Chile and was difficult to concentrate on the game and we had to use the phone to call to Chile...

After saying that... here is what we did:

Devices and software that we used:

I created a map (My Map) on Google Map with different la landmarks (the ones with pictures of places)

View Fill the map: Greenwich-London in a larger map
On my mobile phone I downloaded Google Map Mobile Application so I can saw the same map on my mobile phone.

The Google Map application shows the map and a list where you can click to read the instructions.

Also I created this blog that allows sending post and images from the mobile phone so my idea was to register the trip-game updating the blog with each part of the game. I couldn’t do that this time but my idea is to use it for the final project, so you can be following the game also in the blog.

During this trip is you see the map we visited different places in the area of Greenwich asking for some data of the museums and to take pictures. All that is on the map (above) with the landmarks with a face (David).

Also I tracked the route using GPS for the final result (blue landmarks on the map)

According to the player it was very interesting and funny because with the game it was more than tourism. It had a challenge.

I think this "test" was OK and I want to improve some elements for the final project:

Interface: I'll try to do a website platform instead of using Google Map application, but I think in case I can't it works.

Narrative: I'll do a game with more challenges, maybe with a different narrative; to make it really seems more than a trip.
